New Hampshire Deed Fraud Protection
Imagine you go away on vacation and then come home to find that somebody has bought your house without your knowledge and without paying you anything. They lock you out, and your only remedy is to take them to court.
Sounds far-fetched, but maybe not.
Of the many frauds out there this is one of the worst, and it is happening more and more frequently. As one of twenty states with an alert system, New Hampshire offers a valuable free alert service to help protect its residents.
Like a credit card alert, any time that any document that carries your name is recorded with your county Registrar of Deeds, you’ll get a text or email alert with a link to notify you to see what happened. It’s free.
Grafton County Residents can sign up on the Alert Me to Deed Fraud button below. For residents of other counties, contact my office for help.
New Hampshire Taxpayer Funded Radon Testing
Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that can seep into your home and well water and accumulate at dangerous levels.
It is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States, and is estimated to be responsible for more than 20,000 lung cancer deaths each year.
Radon can be a real problem here in NH. In fact, just recently, my partner and I found out we had elevated levels in our well water.
Because radon is a serious health issue, AND because it is prevalent in our state, New Hampshire has partnered with the EPA to offer free residential radon air tests at no direct cost to you.
New Hampshire Home Energy Efficiency Program
New Hampshire Saves is a program run by the state’s utility companies that, if your home qualifies, will cover about 75% of the cost of efficiency upgrades, or 100% of the cost for lower-income households.
According to NPR reporting, this program helped more than 97,000 customers in 2023, and saved enough electricity to power more than 115,000 homes. It is on a first-come, first-served basis, so when the funds run out, this state program will likely be over. The first step to qualify is to sign up online below. You will need to have some information available, like your electric utility provider and account information, heat source and usage and a few other items. If you have any questions or need help, please contact my office.
New Hampshire Unclaimed Property
In 2024 New Hampshire received over $31 million dollars in cash, and $35 million in securities from dormant accounts. Most of these funds are from deceased residents whose assets have not been claimed. New Hampshire has a great service where you can check for any abandoned money that may legally belong to you, a family member or friend.
